Ware Sets 7 More Records in 64-0 Win

HOUSTON — Before becoming the ninth junior to win the Heisman Trophy, Houston quarterback Andre Ware needed less than three quarters Saturday to set seven NCAA records as the 13th-ranked Cougars defeated Rice, 64-0, in a Southwest Conference game.
Ware, who completed 36 of 51 passes for 400 yards and two touchdowns, set 13 NCAA records this season and 14 overall.
Ware set records Saturday for most completions in a season, 365; total offense, 4,661 yards; and passing offense, 4,699. He also established marks for most attempts per game (52.7), yards passing per game (427.1), touchdowns per game (4.2), and average total offense (423.7).
Houston, on NCAA probation and ineligible for a bowl appearance, finished the season at 9-2 overall and 6-2 in conference play. Rice finished 2-8-1 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
