Thousand Oaks Ends Inquiry

They continue to take issue with a decision last week by Muir High to play several players who that school knew were about to be declared academically ineligible, but Thousand Oaks officials say they will pursue the matter no further despite their football team’s 9-3 playoff loss.

Thousand Oaks Principal Lance Erie spoke with Southern Section officials in the wake of those revelations and expressed concern about the ethics of the Muir officials involved. “They followed the letter of the law and somewhere the spirit got lost,” Erie said.

Seven Muir players were declared ineligible Monday. However, Muir officials said they knew of the disqualifications two days before the game. “My conscience . . . doesn’t bother me,” Muir Coach John Tyree said.
