Ray Fisher made a 15-foot jump shot with six seconds to play to give North Hollywood High a 55-53 victory over Crescenta Valley on Saturday night in the tournament final.
The North Hollywood senior had missed the previous two games because of a sprained ankle and scored only five points against Crescenta Valley, but he nailed the game-winning shot.
“We prayed to ‘Our Lady of the Holy Jump Shot,’ and Ray hit it,” North Hollywood assistant Eli Essa said. The Huskies improved to 6-0.
Crescenta Valley (5-1) clawed back from a 47-38 deficit in the last five minutes on three three-point shots in a row by guard Steve Finch. Finch tied the score, 53-53, on a layup with 47 seconds to play and was fouled. He missed the free throw, however.
Crescenta Valley center Paul Matijasevic outscored North Hollywood center Dana Jones, 16-11.
Franklin 47, Palmdale 42--Jawan Smith made six free throws in the final two minutes to preserve Franklin’s win in the third-place game.
Palmdale guard Louie Medrano made two three-point baskets in the final minute to pull the Falcons within 44-41. John Johnson led Palmdale with 17 points.
La Canada 77, Murphy 46--Louie Nieto scored 11 of his 15 points during a third-quarter La Canada spurt as the Spartans (4-2) won the consolation championship.
