From Times staff and wire reports

Four suspects were in custody after a kidnaping attempt that was foiled when police shot and wounded one suspect at the Orange police station. Police said Nelson Preves, 45, of Santa Ana, Esines Lisett Rodriquez, 23, of Orange, and her child were abducted by four men who confronted them over a drug debt. Police said Emilio Sitt Garcia, 19, armed with a .45-caliber pistol, ordered Preves to drive to Santa Ana and jumped in the back of Preves’ pickup. Preves drove to the police station instead, and the two men eventually wrestled over the pistol. In the scuffle, the gun went off, wounding Preves in the chest and hand, police said. Rodriguez, meanwhile, had run from the truck, and a nearby officer fired two shots, wounding Garcia. The other three suspects, Luis Duque, 26, Jose Hernandez Garcia, 42, both of Santa Ana, and a juvenile were arrested later in Santa Ana for investigation of kidnaping.
