Share

Since no one can predict just when guests will show up during the Christmas season, it’s always a good idea to have plenty of snacks on hand for impromptu entertaining.

Spiced Walnuts will keep well for up to two weeks when stored in an airtight container. These flavored nuts, accented with the exotic flavors of cumin and curry, also make great gifts. Pack them securely in glass jars or canisters and tie with a holiday bow.

SPICED WALNUTS

2 tablespoons butter or margarine

4 cups walnut pieces

1 1/2 tablespoons curry powder

1 tablespoon ground cumin

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1/2 teaspoon sugar

Melt butter in large skillet over medium heat. Add nuts and saute 3 to 4 minutes, tossing often. Stir in curry, cumin, salt and sugar. Saute, tossing frequently, 2 to 3 minutes. Cool, then store in airtight container up to 2 weeks. Makes 4 cups.
