Kid Russell Wins $45,000 Purse
Kid Russell shook Creativity off nearing the stretch, opened a clear lead through the final straight and held on to carry Jerry Bailey to a one-length victory in the $45,000 Dr. Patches purse Wednesday at Aqueduct.
The Real Virginian, rallied to finish second in the field of eight 3-year-olds and up, one length ahead of Leading Appeal. Kid Russell returned $4.80, $3.00 and $2.20 as the favorite.
Kid Russell covered six furlongs on the fast but dull track in 1:11 2-5 to earn $27,000 with his fourth win in 10 starts this year. He returned $4.80, $3.00 and $2.20 as the favorite.
The Real Virginian paid $3.20 and $2.20 and Leading Appeal was worth $3.40 to show.
At Hawthorne Race Course in Chicago, Rustic Jack, a 29-1 shot, drew away from his rivals in the stretch to score a 6 1/2-length victory in Wednesday’s $18,810 Abe’s Hope Purse.
