Hawkins Placed on Injured List

The Rams put defensive end Bill Hawkins on the injured reserve list Friday after arthroscopic surgery was performed to repair a partially torn ligament and a small fracture in his left knee.

Hawkins, the first-round pick from Miami (Fla.) who was starting at right defensive end in place of the injured Mike Piel, was hurt in the fourth quarter of last Monday night’s 30-27 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

To replace Hawkins, the Rams activated rookie linebacker Mark Messner from the developmental squad. Messner is a sixth-round pick from Michigan.
