HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Taft Rallies in 4th Quarter to Win Hamilton Tournament

Forwards Jason Deyoe and James Yoakum led a fourth-quarter rally that carried Taft High to a 58-54 victory over Hamilton on Saturday in the final of the Hamilton tournament.

Deyoe and Yoakum scored 14 of Taft’s 16 fourth-quarter points as the Toreadors overcame a three-point, fourth-quarter deficit.

Deyoe, a 6-foot-8 senior and the tournament’s most valuable player, scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds in the final. Yoakum also grabbed 11 rebounds and scored 17 points. Cornell Hill had 11 points and seven assists.

“We kind of overachieved in this one,” Taft Coach Jim Woodard said. “We played with intensity.”

In another Hamilton tournament game:

Canoga Park 63, Hollywood 59--The Hunters switched from a trap defense to man-to-man coverage in the second half and outscored Hollywood, 34-24, after being down, 34-29, at halftime.

Center Shawn Lewis scored a game-high 19 points and gathered 14 rebounds, and teammate Marcus Reed scored 16 and had eight steals for Canoga Park (5-4).

Camarillo 45, Mesa (Ariz.) 30--David Harbour, a junior guard, scored a game-high 21 points and teammate Rick Schnell added 11 points as Camarillo (4-1) won the tournament championship in Page, Ariz.

CAMPBELL HALL TOURNAMENT

Ribet Academy 68, Campbell Hall 46--Ribet Academy’s Joaquin Moore, the tournament’s most valuable player, scored 13 points in the championship game.

Highland Hall 69, Windward 47--Craig Ernst had 19 points and 15 rebounds and Robert Ramirez had nine assists for Highland Hall (5-2) in the consolation final.

DOS PUEBLOS TOURNAMENT

Lompoc 95, Simi Valley 72--Kenny Hood led Simi Valley (4-4) with a game-high 29 points and eight steals but five Lompoc players scored in double figures in the consolation-championship game.

FLINTRIDGE PREP TOURNAMENT

Moorpark 51, L.A. Baptist 46--Moorpark took the consolation title behind Kim Kira’s 12 points.

OCEAN VIEW TOURNAMENT

Lakewood 63, Hoover 52--Forward John Hillman scored a game-high 34 points to lead Hoover but Lakewood outscored the Tornadoes, 22-12, in the final period of the 12th-place game.

ROSAMOND TOURNAMENT

Paraclete 75, Boron 55--Tim Salado scored 16 points--10 in the second half--for Paraclete in the consolation-championship game.

EL DORADO TOURNAMENT

Canyon 82, Whittier Christian 57--Lance Moore (19 points), the tournament most valuable player, and Jermaine Nixon (31) combined for 50 points to lead Canyon (5-2) to the championship.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Westlake 57, Dos Pueblos 30--Melissa Gische scored a game-high 14 points and Dani Obyrne added 12 for Westlake (5-0) in the Simi Valley tournament.

Canoga Park 46, Santa Clara 43--Carol Lee (3-1) scored 23 points to lead Canoga Park in the Simi Valley tournament.

Hart 63, Royal 36--The Indians (7-1) received a game-high 25 points from Anjanette Dionne and 12 points from Nicole White in the Simi Valley tournament.

Thousand Oaks 63, Van Nuys 44--Michele Palmisano scored a game-high 37 points to lead Thousand Oaks (4-3) in the consolation championship of the Burroughs-Burbank tournament.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Harvard 0, L.A. Baptist 0--Knights’ goalkeeper Jeff Hampsten and Harvard’s Rob Faucett recorded four and five saves, respectively.

St. Francis 2, La Canada 1--Forward David Beall scored on a throw-in from Erik Franken with two minutes remaining to lift the Golden Knights (6-1).

Royal 1, Santa Ana 1--Dan Anderson scored Royal’s (2-0-1) goal in a nonleague match.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Chaminade 8, San Marcos 0--Anne McDermott had three goals and Erin Noonan and Lea Stankevich added two each for the Eagles in the consolation final of the Simi Valley tournament.
