Driver Held in Crash That Killed Passenger
A Glendale man was arrested on suspicion of murder early Sunday after the passenger in his speeding car was killed when the vehicle smashed into a tree and flipped over, Los Angeles police said.
The driver, Brian Scalise, 25, apparently was drunk when he lost control of his car in the 4600 block of Ellenwood Drive in Eagle Rock, causing it to run off the road and hit the tree, Officer Kandi Silver said.
The passenger, 28-year-old Grady Brown of North Hollywood, was thrown from the car and crushed when the vehicle flipped over and landed on top of him, Silver said.
Scalise was being held in the jail ward of Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he is undergoing treatment for minor injuries suffered in the crash, Silver said.
“He had just gotten a new car and was anxious to show it off,” Silver said.
