BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Johnson’s 19 Gets El Toro Into Final

Rob Johnson had 19 points to lead El Toro High School to a 78-64 victory over Wooster of Reno, Nev., Thursday in a championship semifinal of the Carson City tournament.

Greg Everett and Kirk Riddle each had 18 points and Kevin Martin added 11 for El Toro (7-1). El Toro jumped to a 24-5 lead in the first quarter.

In the Fullerton tournament:

Sonora 72, Los Amigos 63--Greg Farlow had 19 points and Anthony Choe scored 14 to pace Sonora (3-4) in a consolation semifinal game. Brian Belnap had 12 for Sonora. Chris Blythe scored 19 for Los Amigos (0-4).

Los Alamitos 71, St. John’s (Washington, D.C.) 55--Robert Conlisk had 12 points and nine rebounds in only 16 minutes of play because of foul trouble. Mike Wilson had 12 points and six assists and Ricky Potts had six assists for Los Alamitos (7-3). St. John’s is 6-1.

La Mirada 63, Fullerton 47--Jason Pietsch’s 19 points paced La Mirada in a semifinal contest against host Fullerton. La Mirada, which led, 30-23, at halftime, pulled far ahead of Fullerton (1-7) with a 17-5 third period.

Cerritos 70, Western 61--Kevin Williams scored 27 points and Scott Williams added 16 to lead Cerritos (7-1) into tonight’s championship game against La Mirada.

Chilliwack 58, Garden Grove 46--John Dykstra’s 24 points led Chilliwack of British Columbia in a consolation semifinal game. After trailing, 10-8, at the end of the first period, Chilliwack outscored Garden Grove, 16-8, in the second period. Joe Squyres scored 19 for Garden Grove.

In the Great Florida tournament:

Oseola 69, Ocean View 58--Host Oseola of Orlando, Fla., was led by Justin Thompson’s 15 points. Ocean View (7-3) was led by Ryan Martin’s 20 points.

In nonleague games:

Santiago 44, Buena Park 41--Forward Ray Lanier scored 22 points for host Buena Park (4-4). Only four players scored for Santiago.

San Clemente 76, Anaheim 61--Center Eddie Morgan scored 32 points and pulled down 14 rebounds and forward Jason Dunahee had 20 for host San Clemente (5-5). Forward Victor Zambrano scored 24 for Anaheim (7-3) and guard Danny Castro had 20.

Huntington Beach 79, Long Beach Wilson 74--Mustapha Abdi had 32 points and 19 rebounds to lead host Huntington Beach (5-4). Stephen Lucas had 11 points and 11 rebounds and Matt Taylor had 11 points for Huntington Beach. Wilson is 4-7.

Cypress 80, Pacifica 78--Guard Darrin Rice scored 25 points to lead Cypress (6-2) in a game at Pacifica. Teammates Roy Smalley and Jackie Gutierrez added 13 points each. Center Mike Maher had 26 points for Pacifica (0-5).
