‘GWTW’ Redux

An article in the Dec. 10 Calendar spoke of a plot to write, publish and film a sequel to “Gone With the Wind.” I can hardly think of an entertainment project that appeals to me less.
Movies such as “GWTW,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and “Casablanca” are intriguing precisely because of the unresolved nature of their endings. To alter them, to sequelize them, removes a lot of the thrill and imagination that the originals had.
Rhett did not say, “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn, but I’ll be back next week when I do.”
