SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Before Saturday night’s championship game of the Bosco Tech tournament, smartly dressed Hart High players donned their uniforms and hung their snazzy suits and ties on the bleachers behind the bench.

Once the game started, the Indians watched as L.A. University made some major alterations on their game plan. Hart, however, finished up with the look of a winner, pulling out a 65-60 victory.

Hart trailed, 44-41, after three periods but fought back to take the lead on several occasions in the fourth quarter. University center Arash Raminfar converted a three-point play to tie the score, 60-60, with 1:16 remaining.

After that, it was all Indians. Chad Fotheringham (seven points, 11 rebounds) hit a jump shot with 42 seconds left to put Hart ahead for good. University (8-4) turned to Greg Vernon, but he was called for traveling with 11 seconds to play.

Hart shot just 33% from the field in the first half and was held 18 points below its season average.

“They did a good job of cutting us down a little bit, although we missed some easy shots too,” Hart Coach Greg Herrick said.

Most of those misses came in the first half when Hart (8-2) connected on just 10 of 30 shots. The Indians, in their second-lowest point output of the season, were forced to play University’s patient tempo for most of the game, and, although they enjoyed a tremendous size advantage, they were unable to use it effectively.

Hart, which had not been held under 20 points in the first period in the tournament, led, 14-12, after one quarter but trailed, 33-30, at halftime thanks to Vernon’s three-point shot at the buzzer. Vernon was named tournament MVP.

Forward Renato Rivas led Hart with a game-high 24 points, including 10 of 10 free throws.

In the fifth-place game:

Camarillo 70, Venice 54--Junior guard David Harbour, dropping in shots from all over the floor, scored 44 points to lead Camarillo. Harbour finished with 166 points in four tournament games.

Camarillo (7-2) led, 31-24, at halftime, but Venice trailed just 52-51 early in the fourth period.

Camarillo outscored Venice, 18-3, the rest of the way.

Harbour, who also had nine rebounds and four assists, sank 15 of 27 field-goal attempts, including three three-point shots and 11 of 15 free throws. A key for Camarillo was the rebounding of Leonard Lopez, who had 13 rebounds while playing out of position at center.
