I witnessed a murder Dec. 3 on Channel 13. No, check that. It was a horrendous slaughter of a movie classic, “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.” Although I knew beforehand it might be “injured” to some extent since it was advertised as a “colorized” version, I didn’t expect to see the bloody mess they made out of it. This definitely was a movie that had to be shown in black and white, not various shades of brown. But the “colorizers” weren’t the only murderers. They were joined in their crime by the “slashers” who cut away at the film gem unmercilessly, undoubtedly to make room for all the commercials in its two-hour time slot.
