Fires in Simi Valley and Northridge overnight caused $100,000 damage each to two homes, authorities said today.

The possibility of arson is being investigated in the Northridge fire, which damaged a house and a garage in the 10800 block of Sylvia Avenue, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Greg Acevedo said.

No one was hurt in the fire, which began shortly after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and was extinguished 26 minutes later, Acevedo said.

In the Simi Valley fire, nine residents escaped uninjured from the house in the 700 block of Erringer Road even though the smoke detector was not working, Ventura County Fire Department spokeswoman Liz Pickles said.

Thirty-six firefighters extinguished the 1:41 a.m. blaze in four minutes, Pickles said. The cause of that fire was being investigated, she said.
