South Gate City Councilman Odell L. Snavely, who pleaded no contest to charges of contributing to the delinquency of two teen-age girls, was given a suspended sentence Tuesday of 120 days in County Jail, two years’ probation and a $500 fine.

Snavely, 71, entered a no-contest plea last February in Huntington Park Municipal Court after being charged with the two misdemeanor counts for employing the girls, ages 13 and 14, at his toy store when they should have been in school.

Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. Kenneth Freeman had asked for the maximum sentence of one year in jail and five years’ probation.
