Heavyweight Bray Loses 3-0 Decision
Don’t expect heavyweight boxer John Bray of Van Nuys to take any European vacations in the near future. Just the thought of the continent is enough to make him uneasy.
“I think I’m earning a reputation,” Bray joked. “I’m losing all my fights to European fighters.”
Bray’s latest loss came Wednesday in Rapid City, S.D., where he dropped a unanimous 3-0 decision to Yugoslavia’s Zeljko Mavrovic in a U. S.-Yugoslavia dual meet. The United States won 11 of the other 12 bouts to handily win the team competition, 11-2.
“I wasn’t as sharp as I would have liked to have been,” said Bray, 19, who was fighting for the first time in three months.
