From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A New York City woman who abandoned her newborn daughter in the lavatory of a cross-country jetliner in July, 1988, began serving a six-month jail term Saturday. Christina LoCasto, 25, pleaded no contest to a child endangerment charge after giving birth on a New Jersey-to-California flight and leaving the infant under a lavatory sink. The baby was discovered by a cleaning crew at San Francisco International Airport. A sheriff’s spokesman said LoCasto was being placed in semi-isolation in order to protect her from possible reprisals from other inmates.
