LOCAL : Retired Judge, Newport Beach Woman Murder-Suicide Victims
A retired judge from Chicago was found dead after he apparently shot and killed a prominent Newport Beach real estate agent in her new townhouse and then turned the gun on himself, authorities said today.
Jerome C. Slad, 72, a retired judge who resided in Rancho Santa Fe, and Geraldine (Jeri) Margaret Hunt, 57, were found dead in the bed of the Laguna Niguel townhouse Monday after neighbors became concerned about not seeing Hunt for several days.
“It appears to be a murder, suicide,” Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Richard Olson said. He said a .38-caliber pistol was found near Slad’s hand.
Slad was a longtime friend of Hunt’s, Olson said.
Hunt was the owner of Hunt Associates in Newport Beach on San Joaquin Hills Road.
Autopsies are scheduled today, Olson said.
