Tennis player Tracy Austin has filed a lawsuit against a glass company stemming from an August car accident in which her right leg was broken.

Austin’s attorney, William O’Day, contends the injury interfered with the athlete’s planned professional tennis comeback. “We don’t know yet if this was a career-ending injury,” he said.

According to legal papers filed Wednesday in Superior Court in Morristown, Austin, 26, of Rolling Hills, Calif., suffered permanent injuries in the Aug. 3 collision between the car she was driving and a van owned by Boss Glass Co. of Victory Gardens. The lawsuit alleges the accident occurred after the van, driven by Steven Reynolls, ran a red light and struck Austin’s vehicle almost broadside. Austin had just left a Short Hills hotel driveway when her car was hit, the lawsuit said. The lawsuit seeks an unspecified amount of damages for pain, suffering and mental anguish.
