Santa Monica : Mural’s Finishing Touches

Share

Children from several Westside schools are expected to place their handprints around the bottom portion of a mural created to raise money and awareness about the environment on Sunday at 1 p.m. at a beach parking lot south of the Sea Castle Apartments, 1725 the Promenade, Santa Monica.

The event is part of a national effort to create murals in various cities. The children’s handprints and their initials are their way of committing to better the environment, coordinators said.

The 40-by-132-foot mural depicts whales, dolphins, sea turtles and other sea life; it was painted by artist Sevan Thometz. A separately organized nationwide walk designed to publicize environmental issues is scheduled to begin at the mural site on Feb. 1.
