A total of $1.66 million wagered in the Oregon Lottery’s Sports Action game will go to the Oregon Economic Development Fund instead of an account for intercollegiate athletics, lottery officials said.
The move was needed because of shortfalls in quarterly proceeds from other lottery games, they said.
Sports Action, the nation’s only lottery game with betting on NFL and NBA games, began in September.
One-third of the sales were to be earmarked for athletics in Oregon’s university system. Estimates of how much Sports Action might raise annually generally ranged from $3 million to $8 million.
