California IN BRIEF : SACRAMENTO : Justices Won’t Lift Cougar-Killing Ban
The state Supreme Court refused to hear a challenge to a ruling blocking the killing of mountain lions for sport. In a brief order, the justices rejected a petition by the state Fish and Game Commission seeking review of a decision by a state Court of Appeal last October that halted a proposal to resume the hunts after a 17-year ban. The commission wanted to resume the hunts while it analyzed the environmental impact of doing away with the ban. An initiative planned for the June ballot would prohibit killing the lions for sport.
