San Diego Zoo Flooded With Calls: The San Diego Zoo was swamped with callers Monday morning following a report Sunday on “60 Minutes” about zoo-bred animals possibly ending up sold at auctions for use at hunting ranches. Callers to the zoo were being transferred to a recorded message which stated that the zoo does not “condone” or “participate in” activities connected with wildlife auctions or hunting ranches and does not have business dealings with anyone who does. “ ’60 Minutes’ did not do its homework,” said San Diego Zoo spokesman Jeff Jouett. “The piece was heavy on innuendo and light on facts.” He said that by noon on Monday the zoo had received between 60-70 calls from people wanting to ask questions or express outrage.
