Los Angeles police Tuesday were seeking a gunman and two accomplices who fired several shots at an off-duty officer’s car, injuring one of his passengers and forcing a temporary closure of the southbound Harbor Freeway just after the Monday evening rush hour.

The passenger, who was not identified, was treated for a forehead cut and released, Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Chuck Brown said. Neither the officer nor the second passenger was injured. They were not identified.

Brown said the incident began about 8 p.m. Monday on the freeway near 83rd Street, when three men in a Datsun sped up along the left side of the officer’s personal car. One man “fired several rounds at the officer’s vehicle,” Brown said.

Shots peppered the officer’s car, resulting in a passenger being cut by a metal fragment. The freeway was closed until 10:30 p.m. while police gathered evidence. Police say they have found no motive for the shooting.
