A motorist was killed this morning when his car sped through a stop sign near Lancaster and crashed into the side of a tractor-trailer rig, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Gary Lofgren, 42, of Rosamond was killed about 4:50 a.m. at the intersection of 60th Street West and Avenue D, said CHP Sgt. Frank Deal.
Lofgren was southbound on 60th Street and was driving in excess of 50 m.p.h. when he went past the stop sign and crashed into the big rig driven by Michael Wells, 26, of Lancaster, Deal said. Wells was not injured.
Deal said there were no indications Lofgren had attempted to stop prior to impact. Wells was not cited and an investigation into why Lofgren did not stop was continuing.
