COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Glendale Hits Key Foul Shots to Edge Oxnard

Dave Swanson, Bruce Heicke and Gary Fowler each converted one-and-one situations during the final minute to lift Glendale College to a 79-76 victory over Oxnard in a Western State Conference game Wednesday night at Santa Clara High.

Fowler paced the Vaqueros (16-9, 4-3) with 27 points, Swanson added 18 points and 12 rebounds and Tony Lopez scored 13.

Oxnard was led by guards Randy Carter (31 points) and Joe Daughrity (28).

In another men’s game:

Antelope Valley 105, Rio Hondo 89--Six Antelope Valley players--Paul Ernst (25 points), Steve Walker (16), Tony Madison (15), Demetrious Phillips (14), Joe Mantashigian (13) and Walter Brooks (13)--scored in double figures for the third consecutive game in a Foothill Conference game at Rio Hondo.

The win was the fifth in a row for Antelope Valley (20-6, 6-1) and marked its fifth 100-point performance.

WOMEN

Valley 94, Santa Barbara 53--With the score tied, 18-18, with 9 minutes 30 seconds remaining in the first half of a Western State Conference game, the visiting Monarchs embarked on a 30-4 run, punctuated by Ericka Miller’s three-point basket at the buzzer.

Miller, a freshman off-guard from Chatsworth High, came off the bench to lead Valley with 22 points on nine-of-11 shooting from the field.

Sandrine Rocher, Angela Smith and Sharlene Cirrito combined for 39 points and guard Sylvia Castaneda added 11 points and six assists for Valley (20-4, 6-1).

Moorpark 79, Canyons 67--Moorpark went on a 10-2 run after Canyons had pulled within one with less than seven minutes remaining in a match-up of once-beaten Western State Conference teams at Moorpark.
