‘No Parking’ Hours to Be Extended in Many Areas

In an attempt to improve traffic flow, Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley has ordered the city’s Department of Transportation to standardize curbside parking on 60 primary and secondary arteries by extending “No Parking” restrictions to 7 p.m.

By standardizing parking limits where restrictions now vary from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on different stretches of the same street, the mayor said traffic congestion on major boulevards now jammed at rush hour can be eliminated.

The Department of Transportation was told to start changing parking signs immediately, with completion in five working days. The workers were given 20 days to complete work on streets where new parking restrictions must be posted. Those who ignore the signs could be out $118 for towing, fees for impounding and a ticket.
