1 of 4 Escapees Captured in Colorado

One of four suspects who escaped last month from an extradition agency’s station wagon near Gorman was recaptured Friday in Pueblo, Colo., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.

David Allen Jeffrey, 30, was in custody at the Pueblo sheriff’s jail awaiting extradition to California to face charges of armed robbery, grand theft auto, and assault with a deadly weapon, Deputy George Ducoulombier said.

Jeffrey escaped Dec. 28 after another prisoner in the station wagon feigned illness and pointed a shotgun at the driver after he stopped the car on a freeway off-ramp, authorities said. The prisoners handcuffed the driver and his wife to a telephone pole and drove off in the station wagon.

The other suspects have not been captured, officials said.
