Tom Anthony, principal at Capistrano Valley High School, gave four-day suspensions to two students on Monday for their involvement in a brawl during the Cougars’ basketball game at Mission Viejo High School Friday night.

Anthony said Capistrano Valley parents and students identified the students. He said he could not reveal the students’ names.

Anthony suspended the students for joining a fight between players in the fourth quarter of the Cougars’ 77-63 victory over Mission Viejo.

No players were suspended, Anthony said. Mission Viejo’s Eric Cramer and Capistano Valley’s Brett McCorkle were ejected from the game after the fight.

Another Capistrano Valley student was suspended from attending on-campus activities for the rest of the school year because of the fight, Anthony said.

Anthony said he’s considering suspending another Capistrano Valley student who was involved in a fight behind the scorer’s table.

Bob Metz, Mission Viejo principal, was on jury duty Monday and unavailable for comment.
