Chris Antley, a top jockey whose career was interrupted by drug use, could get his license back by March 15.

The New York State Racing and Wagering Board announced Tuesday it will act on Antley’s application for a license on or after that day.

“It is anticipated, that should Chris Antley continue to make progress toward rehabilitation and continue to test clean, that a license will be granted at that time, subject to close monitoring and drug testing by the board,” Board Chairman Richard F. Corbisiero Jr. said.

“I’ve been holding my breath in anticipation of the decision and I’m pleased to the have a prospective date at reinstatement,” Antley said.

The 24-year-old Antley, the nation’s top rider with 485 wins in 1985, was suspended indefinitely by the board for undisclosed reasons Sept. 23, 1989.

Antley, however, said through his agent five days later that the suspension was for substance abuse.
