Mark Williams Takes Bowling Lead

GRAND PRAIRIE, Tex. — Mark Williams averaged 228.2 Wednesday night to take the second-round lead in the Professional Bowlers Assn. $150,000 Quaker State Open.
Williams, a two-time winner of the Tournaments of Champions, knocked down 2,739 pins for 12 games, one more than Jimmie Pritts Jr.
Hugh Miller, who won this tournament in 1980 and 1984, was third with 2,721 pins.
First-round leader Bob Benoit was fourth after scattering 2,720 pins. Benoit won this event in 1988 with the only 300 ever recorded in a title game.
Brad Snell, who has yet to win a PBA tour title, rounds out the top five with 2,680 pins.
