ABC and Guild Agree to Pay, Benefits Pact
Representatives for ABC and the Writers Guild of America, East have reached an agreement on a contract that calls for wage increases and other benefits, it was announced today.
The union, which represents about 160 producers, editors, desk assistants, researchers, production assistants, promotion writers and graphic artists as well as television and radio writers, is expected to ratify the pact Monday.
The three-year agreement affects workers at ABC network television and radio in New York and Washington and at WABC-TV in New York, said Martin Waldman, a WGA spokesman.
It would provide for an immediate wage increase of 5% and another 5% raise on Aug. 1, 1991, with substantial additional increases for graphic artists, Waldman said.
Other benefits include new fees for news writers in network radio who assume additional technical duties and additional vacation time for union members who have been with the network more than 15 years.
The old contract, which expired at midnight, was reached after a bitter seven-week strike against ABC in 1987.
