COUNTYWIDE : Long Freeway Chase Crisscrosses County
A motorist led police on a 90-minute chase through Los Angeles and the length of Orange County Thursday before being arrested near Del Mar in San Diego County.
Fernando Arechiga, 28, of Los Angeles was arrested on suspicion of evading a peace officer, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without auto insurance, said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Gary Smith.
Arechiga was booked at the Vista Detention Center.
The chase begin about 1 a.m. near the corner of 33rd and Figueroa streets when Los Angeles police tried to stop Arechiga for a traffic violation, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. J.J. Rees.
Arechiga then drove his car on the wrong side of street and entered the southbound San Diego Freeway, Rees said.
The chase continued all the through Orange County with the CHP joining the pursuit, according to authories.
Arechiga stopped at the Del Mar Heights exit, where police arrested him.
No injuries were reported.
