GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Yoshioka Leads El Toro Past Mission Viejo by 9

Point guard Karie Yoshioka scored 28 points to lead El Toro High School to a 62-53 victory over Mission Viejo in a South Coast League girls’ basketball game Thursday at Mission Viejo.
El Toro (20-5, 7-1) played without injured starter Danielle Silva, who averages 12 points a game. Sara Bone added 16 points and 10 rebounds for El Toro, ranked No. 2 in Orange County. Mission Viejo’s Jennifer Rohrig scored 27 points, 19 in the first half.
In the Angelus League:
Rosary 55, St. Paul 51--Diane Wiskus had 22 points and 19 rebounds and Wendy Herb had 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead visiting Rosary (11-7, 3-5).
Bishop Montgomery 56, Mater Dei 53--Dawn Gawronski had 12 points for host Mater Dei (8-12, 5-3).
In the Century League:
Foothill 63, Canyon 36--Amy Steinle and Shannon Ebert each had 12 points to lead host Foothill (13-8, 8-0). Dee Moore had 14 points and Kori Dalbey had 11 for Canyon (9-7, 4-4).
Villa Park 52, Santa Ana 48--Susannah Thrasher had 16 points to lead visiting Villa Park (5-10, 4-4), which moved into a tie for third place with Canyon. Gracie Lopez had 18 points for Santa Ana (7-13, 0-8).
In the Freeway League:
Fullerton 59, Buena Park 41--Sommer McLane had 30 points and 14 rebounds to lead Fullerton (15-5, 7-1). Jenny Comstock and Benna Kennedy each added 10 points for Fullerton. Sandra Bodnar had nine points for Buena Park.
In the Olympic League:
Capistrano Valley Christian 61, Brethren 30--Jennifer Floerke had 14 points to lead visiting Capistrano Valley Christian (7-12, 5-7).
In the Orange League:
Valencia 70, Magnolia 34--Hollie Keaton scored 18 points and Sig Lo had 14 for Valencia at Valencia.
Brea-Olinda 69, Savanna 51--Aimee McDaniel had 20 to lead host Brea-Olinda (22-0, 8-0). Carrie Frederick had 21 to lead Savanna (15-8, 5-3). Jodi Anton had 16 and Ginelle Williams had 15 for Brea-Olinda. Stacey Alliff had 12 for Savanna.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Woodbridge 70, Trabuco Hills 57--Belinda Taub had 25 points and 11 rebounds, Deanna Harry had 13 points and 15 rebounds and Leslie Rathbun had 17 points to lead host Woodbridge (19-4, 8-0). Woodbridge clinched a tie for its seventh consecutive league title.
Orange 54, Laguna Beach 34--Senior center Nicole Champion scored eight of her game-high 16 points during the third quarter, in which Orange outscored Laguna Beach, 22-2.
Costa Mesa 59, Laguna Hills 41--Thuy Nguyen scored 17 points and Olivia DiCamilli added 14 points and 10 rebounds to pace Costa Mesa (11-10, 5-3) at Laguna Hills. Stephanie Szallay had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Laguna Hills 1-7 in league play. Costa Mesa opened an 11-3 lead after one quarter and stretched it to 30-10 at halftime.
In the Sea View League:
Tustin 67, Corona del Mar 36--Shari Needham, Christine Garner and Jennifer Coombs combined for 46 points as Tustin clinched a tie for the league title at Tustin. Needham had 18 points, Coombs 15 and Garner 13 points and 14 rebounds. Tustin (19-5, 8-0) outscored Corona del Mar, 23-5, in the first period. Heather Flaherty had 23 for Corona del Mar, which is 1-7 in league play.
University 68, Saddleback 34--Denise Gandara had 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead host University (16-5, 6-2). Tara Wolfe had 14 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots for University. Leann Larriva had 13 points for Saddleback, which is 3-5 in league.
Estancia 54, Newport Harbor 49--Liz Collins had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Monique Sweet had 18 points and eight rebounds for host Estancia (9-11, 4-4). Newport Harbor’s Stacey Giem had 27 points.
In the Sunset League:
Ocean View 58, Huntington Beach 27--Tracy Wolfe scored 20 points and Jenny Sullivan added 10 to pace Ocean View (22-2, 7-1) at home.
Edison 66, Marina 42--Melanie Iwamasa had 16 points and Erika Miller had 14 to lead visiting Edison (14-7, 4-4). Colleen Hatch had a career-high 18 points for Marina (17-6, 6-2).
Fountain Valley 63, Westminster 37--Forward Jennifer Barbaro had 14 points and nine rebounds to pace Fountain Valley at Westminster. Guard Julie Workman added 10 for Fountain Valley (16-8, 5-3). Kim Sentman had 14 points for Westminster.
