In nonconference baseball:

UC Irvine 4, Chapman 3--Osmar DeChavez singled home Al Rodriguez in the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie at Irvine (2-1). Chapman (3-1) led, 2-0, in the fifth inning, but Irvine scored once in the fifth and twice in the seventh.

Relief pitcher Joel Sewell picked up the victory after giving up two hits and striking out three in 1 2/3 innings. Mike Rood worked a third of an inning for his second save.

Stanford 1, Cal State Fullerton 0--Roger Burnett’s sacrifice fly scored Troy Tollman in the third to give third-ranked Stanford (5-0) its second consecutive victory over visiting Fullerton (1-2). James Popoff (0-1) took the loss.

Southern California College 3, UC Riverside 0--Paul Plyler went two for three with a two-run home run in the third for host SCC (1-0).

Christ College Irvine 15-13, Whittier 1-6--Center fielder Terry Robinson went two for three and scored twice in the opener as Christ College Irvine started its season with two easy victories. Terry Robinson went four for six and scored three runs in Game 2.

In Big West men’s swimming:

Nevada Las Vegas 124, UC Irvine 117--Brian Pajer won the 200-yard individual medley and the 200 breaststroke for host Irvine (5-4). .

In Big West women’s swimming:

Nevada Las Vegas 156, UC Irvine 79--Trishna Coleman won the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions for host Irvine (3-7).

In nonconference men’s tennis:

UC Irvine 6, Arizona 3--Trevor Kronemann defeated Doug Livingston, 6-2, 6-0; Richard Lubnar beat Ringo Navarossa, 7-5, 7-5, and Shige Kanroji defeated Scott Sigerseth, 6-7, 6-3, 7-5, to lead ninth-ranked Irvine (2-0) at Arizona.

In Big West women’s tennis:

Fresno State 8, Cal State Fullerton 1--Maria Mendez defeated Caroline Sporer, 6-4, 6-1, to lead visiting Fresno State. Roseanne Alva defeated Valerie Stukousky, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 4 singles for Fullerton’s only victory. The Titans are 2-4, 1-2.
