CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SAN JOSE : Policeman Charged in Sex Assaults
A city policeman has been arrested on charges of fondling female motorists after stopping them for traffic violations, a Police Department spokeswoman said. Officer George Gonzalez, 30, a six-year veteran, was placed on paid administrative leave and freed on his own recognizance pending resolution of the case, Veronica Damon said. Gonzalez was charged with two felony and five misdemeanor counts of false imprisonment after an investigation triggered by a complaint from one of his alleged victims. In that incident, Gonzalez allegedly stopped a 22-year-old motorist for a traffic violation. After he had cited the woman, Gonzalez “asked her to get out of the vehicle and he touched her in an inappropriate manner,” Damon said.
