BREA : 5% Pay Raise for Council Approved
The City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a 5% pay raise for council members.
The raise will take effect Dec. 6, when council members will receive a $17-per-month increase for a total monthly salary of $361.
State law sets compensation for council members in cities such as Brea, with populations of less than 35,000, at $300 a month plus an optional 5% pay raise each year, said Brea City Clerk Donna Rhine.
The raise will go into effect a month after the Nov. 6 election because councils are prohibited from voting themselves a raise.
