Srejber Upsets Krickstein in Milan Tennis

Third-seeded Aaron Krickstein was upset by unseeded Milan Srejber of Czechoslovakia 6-2, 6-3 today in the second round of the Milan indoor tennis tournament.

“Srejber broke me twice at the beginning of both sets and it was impossible to come back on a guy who serves as well as he does,” Krickstein said.

Unseeded Americans Pete Sampras and Jim Courier, both 19, scored convincing victories.

Sampras, of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., won a second-set tie-breaker 7-4 to complete a 6-1, 7-6 victory over Markus Zoecke, the West German qualifier who upset Jimmy Connors in the opening round.

Courier, of Dade City, Fla., beat Czechoslovak Karel Novacek 6-4, 6-4.

Seventh-seeded Horst Skoff of Austria pulled out of his match against West German Eric Jelen because of stomach pains and flu. Skoff, who had lost the first-set tie-breaker 7-5, was leading 5-4 when he defaulted.

Swiss Jakob Hlasek, John McEnroe doubles teammate, took nearly two hours to down Jeremy Bates of Britain 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
