Police Arrest 2 Men After Bank Heist

Two masked gunmen held up a Northridge bank and sped off in a van that was stopped a short time later by officers who arrested the driver and one of the alleged robbers, authorities said.

The third suspect remained at large Friday night, police said.

No one was injured in the holdup that occurred about 3:40 p.m. at the Atlantic Financial Savings Bank in the 16900 block of Nordhoff Street, Los Angeles Police Detective Larry DeLosh said.

A witness to the robbery flagged down a a police car, DeLosh said, and officers sighted the van a short distance away. They arrested the driver, Wayne Gebro, 41, of Los Angeles, but two suspected robbers fled on foot.

A search conducted with the aid of a police helicopter and police dogs resulted in the arrest of Anthony Diblasio, 29, of Los Angeles, police said. Officers also recovered several loaded handguns and most of the stolen cash, DeLosh said.

The robbery was followed about 20 minutes later by a robbery attempt at a Sherman Oaks bank that was thwarted when customers subdued the robber and held him until police arrived, Los Angeles police said.

The man handed a note to a teller demanding money and pretended to have a weapon. Customers became suspicious and surrounded him, police said.
