John David Fahey, 21, was beaten and shot to death Sept. 30 in front of a restaurant at Balboa Boulevard and 28th Street.

According to police, Rose, Fahey’s neighbor, had fought with Fahey’s female roommate the day before the killing, according to police. Police said Rose asked a few friends over to her apartment. Police said Rose told her roommate to expect some “guys coming over to protect them.”

Fahey and his other roommate, Brent Claxton, were leaving their apartment to go to a liquor store when they were attacked by a group of people. Claxton managed to escape unharmed.

Three suspects in the case have already pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon . They are Roman M. Woolem, 20, of San Pedro; Larry Pena, 24, of Long Beach; and Robert Pimental Jr., 20, also of Long Beach.

Woolem was sentenced to three years in prison on Feb. 6. Pena will be sentenced March 5. Pimental was ordered to appear for his sentencing in September.

Prosecutors said they expect the first trial in the case, that of Tito Huizar, 19, and Reynoldo Zepeda, 21, to begin next week. Both are from Long Beach and face the same charges as Rose.
