Hubert Green’s eagle on the last hole Saturday gave him a one-stroke lead over hometown hero David Ishii after the third round of the Hawaiian Open.

Green hit a three-iron to within five feet of the flag and made the putt for an eagle-three on the closing hole at the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu.

It finished off a bogey-free round of 66 for Green, a two-time Hawaiian Open champion who hasn’t won on the American tour since the 1985 PGA Championship.

Green, who won this tournament in 1978 and 1979, completed 54 holes in 206, 10 under par.

Ishii, a Honolulu native who plays most of his golf on the Japanese tour, managed a 68 in the gusty trade winds and was one shot back at 207 going into today’s final round.

It was three shots back to Craig Stadler and Paul Azinger, tied for third at 210. Defending champion Gene Sauers leads a group at 211.

Mike Hill shot a three-under-par 69 for a two-shot lead over Dale Douglass and Larry Mowry after two rounds of the Suncoast senior tournament in Tampa, Fla.

Gary Player and Lee Trevino are three shots back of Hill.
