Station Takes Stand on Malathion: KFI-AM took a stand against malathion spraying with a live broadcast Monday night that combined a noisy but orderly demonstration with an on-air debate hosted by talk-radio personality Tom Leykis. The show originated from a site in Irwindale, one of the communities sprayed during the 9 p.m.--1 a.m. broadcast. The gathering was sprayed, said Leykis. “I was just introducing what we’re about to do and here came the helicopters,” he said. During the show Leykis got a call from B.T. Collins, California’s chief deputy state treasurer, who claimed that he is suffering no after-effects from drinking a glass of malathion-corn syrup mixture nine years ago.
