Vancouver Music Director Named
Sergiu Comissiona, former music director for the New York City Opera, has been appointed music director of the Vancouver Symphony, effective September, 1991.
The appointment may take him out of the running for the job of music director of the Pacific Symphony, which he will lead on May 23 and 24 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.
As one of the guest conductors of the Pacific this season, Comissiona technically has been under consideration for the vacant post. However, informed sources have indicated that with his extensive professional background and credits, he would not be expected to take the Pacific job if it were offered to him.
Nonetheless, Louis G. Spisto, the Pacific’s executive director, has said he expects the new director to hold an appointment with another orchestra.
