Evander Holyfield, No. 1 contender for the heavyweight boxing title, is ready to fight newly crowned champion James (Buster) Douglas, despite demands by dethroned Mike Tyson for a rematch, his manager said.
Holyfield had been prepared to step aside to allow a Tyson-Douglas rematch in June under an agreement promising him a fight with the winner, but John Johnson, Douglas’ manager, said in New York that there probably will not be a rematch until September.
“I want James to enjoy himself for a while and make lots of money,” Johnson was quoted as saying in New York Newsday.
