COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Miller Cleans Up on Boards; Titan Women Defeat Pacific

Genia Miller scored 22 points, grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds and had six blocked shots to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 68-55 victory over Pacific in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game Thursday at Fullerton.

Jill Matyuch scored 15 points, had eight assists and three steals, Joey Ray had 13 points and Kathy Werth had 12 points for Fullerton (11-11, 6-7).

Tine Freil had 14 points and nine rebounds and Charlene Alden had 13 points for Pacific (9-13, 4-10).

Nevada Las Vegas 86, UC Irvine 42--Pauline Jordan scored 16 points and Teresa Jackson scored 14 to lead host UNLV. Every player scored for UNLV. UC Irvine (1-20, 0-12) was led by Geanine Hobbs with had 11 points. UNLV led, 42-16, at halftime.

In the National Christian College Athletic Assn. Division II Regional Championships in Phoenix:

Pacific Christian 116, Southwestern 62--Brian Keiser scored 31 points, including seven three-pointers, and had seven assists to lead Pacific Christian. Freshman Tag Kelly added 29 points.

At the University of Arizona softball tournament:

Cal State Fullerton 5, Kansas 0--Deborah Hartwig and Missy Combs each doubled and scored a run to lead Fullerton in its first game of pool play.

Cal State Fullerton 5, Utah 1--Charlotte Wiley doubled and had two RBIs, Buffy Sanchez had two hits and scored two runs and Deborah Hartwig had three hits and scored two runs.

In nonconference men’s tennis:

UC Irvine 8, San Jose State 1--Richard Lubner defeated Mike Chinchiolo 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 and Shige Kanroji defeated Brian Eagle 6-3, 6-4, to lead host UC Irvine (3-2). Carsten Hoffmann and Neel Grover defeated Eagle and Billy Ball, 6-4, 6-4.
