Overloaded Circuit Causes $30,000 Fire

Aliving room appliance plugged into an overloaded circuit malfunctioned Saturday morning and started a fire that caused about $30,000 damage to a North Hollywood house, a Fire Department official said.
The residents of 6545 Troost Ave. had left the house for breakfast before the fire started in an outlet that six appliances were plugged into, police said.
Before firefighters arrived, a police officer who was clearing the house was slightly injured when he was bitten in the leg by one of the residents’ dogs, police said. He was treated at St. Joseph Medical Center and released, police said.
Fire Department Capt. Frank David said the blaze was confined mostly to the living room, but smoke and heat damaged the rest of the one-story house.
