WOMEN’S BASKETBALL : Long Beach Hands Irvine 114-43 Loss

Cal State Long Beach women’s basketball team handed UC Irvine its 19th consecutive loss Saturday night with a 114-43 Big West Conference victory at Long Beach.

The 11th-ranked 49ers, 19-5 overall and 12-2 in the Big West, shot nearly 60% from the floor and had five players score in double figures. Junior forward Penny Moore led Long Beach with 21 points, and junior guard Serina Strange added a career-high 14 points.

After opening the game with 10 unanswered points, the 49ers led at halftime, 58-23.

Center Angelique Lee had a team-high 11 rebounds as the 49ers outrebounded the Anteaters, 47-27.

Forward Jenny Lee scored 11 points to lead Irvine, which fell to 1-22 and 0-14.

Stanford 91, UCLA 65--Jennifer Azzi scored 19 points, including 14 in the second half, to lead the third-ranked Cardinal past the Bruins in a Pacific 10 game at Stanford.

After leading at halftime, 44-41, the Bruins were outscored, 50-21, in the second half, including the last 14 points of the game.

Rehema Stephens led UCLA (14-9, 9-4) with 23 points.

Stanford is 22-1 and 12-1.

Sandra VanEmbricqs scored 18 points and Michele Wootton had 17 for UCLA.

Katy Steding and Val Whiting scored 14 each for Stanford.

Stanford was outshot 52.2% to 44.9%, but outrebounded UCLA, 42-31.

California 58, USC 52--Auli Gronroos scored 18 points and Monica Wiley added 12, including the game’s final three points, to lead the Bears past the Trojans at Berkeley.

Tammy Hammond scored 20 points and Tammy Story had 12 steals for the Trojans (6-15, 4-9). California is 14-9 and 6-7.
