Arizona Right on Target in 93-68 Romp Over Cal

Matt Muehlebach scored a career-high 20 points to lead No. 21 Arizona--which shot 67%--to a 93-68 Pacific 10 Conference victory Wednesday night over California.

The Wildcats hit a school-record 80% in the first half, sinking 20 of 25 shots.

Muehlebach scored 17 of his points in the first half as the Wildcats (18-5, 12-3) took control. Arizona freshman Ed Stokes added a season-high 18 points.

California, led by Roy Fisher’s 16 points, shot only 41.9%.

Cal (19-7, 10-5) made a short run at the beginning of the second half, cutting a 14-point halftime lead to 49-39 on a tip-in by Fisher. But Arizona responded with a 14-2 run.

Early in the game, the Bears led, 8-7, but Arizona went on a 9-0 run and quickly stretched its margin to 10 points. Cal then made a run of its own to close to 24-20 on a three-point shot by Bill Elleby.

Arizona scored the next 13 points to take a 37-20 lead on a three-point basket by Muehlebach with 7:11 left in the half. Cal was unable to make up the deficit.

Keith Smith added 14 points for Cal, with Brian Hendrick and Bryant Walton scoring 12 each.

Arizona has beaten Cal in their last eight meetings.
