Picking Winners Better Than a Winning Picker
A genuine compliment on your improved horse racing coverage. However, I must register a complaint about your new handicapper, Curtis Crayon.
I noticed that on Wednesday, Feb. 14, The Times started listing the total mutuel payoffs of all the handicappers, obviously an attempt to rationalize the low number of winners that Crayon has.
Crayon is nearly 40 winners behind the leading public handicapper and a good portion of his money total was earned by stumbling into two big-price winners in a one-week span.
The average race fan is looking for consistency and an occasional decent price from an alleged professional, and one would think The Times would have enough responsibility to find someone who knows what they are doing to back up Bob Mieszerski.
I’ve followed Mieszerski’s picks for a long time, and, although he is having an off meeting, his selections are still rock solid and professional.
