Two men were wounded by shotgun blasts Saturday night following a fight outside a Mission Beach taco shop, San Diego police said.

The two men, described only as an active U.S. Marine and an ex-Marine, went to Roberto’s taco shop at Mission Boulevard and Ventura Place about 5:13 p.m. when a fight started with a man who reportedly lived in an apartment above the business.

After words were exchanged, someone from the apartment above threw water onto the men who were eating their tacos on the street below.

When the men went upstairs to confront the people in the apartment, they were shot with what police described as a shotgun.

The shots struck one of the servicemen in the ankle and the second in the back.

Both men were taken to UCSD Medical Center and the second was in surgery, said Sgt. Shawna Shelby.

Police had two people in custody late Saturday but no charges had been filed.
